Laderas de Cabama
The new kid in school and we have a date with her! Her older sister is homecoming queen, if you read the press much, you know her – a big time insiders favorite in Rioja.
The long and short of it is that we were/are not actively looking for more producers from Rioja, but there is only one wine from this producer and it’s more old school than all of our producers and a screaming value! We were captivated and we have nothing like it.
100% sustainable viticulture, 100% fermented in concrete, 100% French Oak, 100% Tempranillo. The 2010 is the inaugural release. On the first taste I wrote; “Round texture, old style, the Pinot side of Tempranillo, silky, dark fruits, smoke, pomegranate and earth”. My tasting notes are as messed up as anyone’s, but if you notice there are only two specific flavor descriptors here and the rest of the note is trying to capture essence, texture, elusive mercurial concepts and it is always the metaphysical tasting note that denotes real pleasure and quality in wine... at least in my [crazy] world. At (roughly) $20 retail, this wine will get your taste buds excited, your brain engaged and leave your wallet fat.
